Brian Wilson returns to his California roots with the release of his new record,
That Lucky Old Sun. This record plays like a sound track to Brian's life. As usual his beautiful harmonies take us back to a simpler time when it was all about the music. His genius carried us when we were down and inspired many to rise above. At that time he never truly was able to enjoy the fruits of his imagination. Through his music he brought us closer to him and into his life. We listened to his happiest times as a Beach Boy and we also heard his darkest times. Through depression, drugs and tragedy he shared it all with us. He tried many comebacks but the demons were too strong to escape. Finally he broke free and embraced his new life and ever since then, happy times are here again. This album is California through the eyes of Brian Wilson. Tracks like
Forever She'll Be My Surfer Girl and
Southern California are beautiful examples of what the Wilson brothers were are about, Love. The album also contains some great narratives by old Smile collaborator, Van Dyke Parks. This album in many ways sounds like a sequel to Smile. Its nice to see Brian's imagination overflowing again. Brian is back!
